Find an address in the gazetteer

When you need to find a property or organisation in the ASSURE gazetteer, you will probably use the Find Address dialog (or a variant of it such as Add Ad Hoc Neighbour).

Sometimes, you will be checking that the address is not in the gazetteer, for example before creating a manually formatted address (MFA). An MFA may be acceptable in some circumstances but not in others. Also, you may have to add the MFA to the gazetteer before the current application or worksheet can be completed.

Note

In ASSURE Public Protection, closed addresses are indicated by a (C) prefix, and out-of-area addresses by an (OA) prefix. If you choose a closed address, ASSURE will ask for confirmation.

Finding an address, or creating a manually formatted address

  1. Optionally, untick the Include Pseudo Postcode checkbox (if present) to exclude non-postal addresses from the search.

  2. In the Find Address field, begin typing any part of the address.

After at least three characters, click Search to get a list of suggested matches.

  3. If a match ends with a more addresses link, you can click it to view more properties within that street, area, or postcode.

  4. Click on a found address to select it.

Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to select more than one address. If you select an unwanted address, click red cross icon and confirm to remove it.

  5. If the address you want is not found, you may be able to enter a manually formatted address, but only if the dialog includes either:

    • An Add Manually button.

    • The following prompt and link:

Can't find the address you're looking for?
      Enter it manually

The Enter Address Manually dialog opens. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to enter a structured MFA in the fields shown below, or a non-structured MFA in a simple Address box. If an Enter non-structured manual address checkbox is present, you can choose between the two.
