Inspection summaries

Over time, a regulated subject — whether it is a business, organisation, premises, person, or vehicle — may be inspected multiple times and for multiple reasons.

Each inspection is recorded by an Inspection worksheet which, if the inspection is scored, will include various officer-assessed risk scores. From these, an overall score or averages are calculated — the exact method depends on the type of inspection. These in turn determine the frequency of future inspections.

Each Inspection summary relates to a specific:

  • Inspection application and task group.

  • Property or organisation address, person, or vehicle.

  • Registered food business or environmental permit (where relevant).

An Inspection summary shows the last officer scores and the date of the next allocated inspection.

  • An Animal Welfare Inspection summary also includes a Risk Level tab which shows the risk level (Low Risk or Higher Risk) and the 14 criteria that determined it (where applicable).

  • An Environmental Permit Inspection summary identifies the relevant Permit Type and may also include an EP Risk Assessment tab.

  • A Food Hygiene, Food Standards, or Food Scotland Inspection summary identifies the Food Business Name as well as its most recent Inspection Scores.

The relevant Inspection summary is created or updated whenever a scored Inspection worksheet is completed. Some non-routine Inspection worksheets may also update a food business's FHRS/FHIS rating.

From an Inspection summary you can:

  • View all related Inspection worksheets.

  • Create a new Inspection worksheet.

  • Re-rate an inspected premises (for example, on the basis of new information).

  • Close down future inspections by setting a closed date.

Note

The Inspection summary closed date is set automatically if the relevant property or organisation is closed, but if the property or organisation is later re-opened the closed date is not updated and must, assuming inspections are required, be cleared manually.
