Maintain codes
You can create new codes within an existing code type, edit the codes (apart from the actual code values) and delete unused codes.
Restrictions
You cannot create new code groups or code types.
You cannot change any code that has its Protected checkbox ticked (if present).
If the Add New button is unavailable, the code type itself is protected. You cannot add new codes.
You cannot delete codes that are currently used anywhere in ASSURE.
To create a new code within an existing code type:
-
On the System Administration screen, in the General section, click Code Maintenance.
The List of Code Groups screen appears, with a Code Groups pane on the left, and a Code Types pane on the right. The Code Groups pane lists all code groups; the Code Types pane is initially empty.
-
To find the code type you want, do either of the following:
-
Click on a code group in the Code Groups pane.
The code group is highlighted and the code types in that code group are listed in the Code Types pane.
-
Start typing the name of the code group or code type in the Search for Code Types … box.
As you type, any matching code groups are highlighted in the Code Groups pane and the matching code types are listed in the Code Types pane.
-
Click the required code type.
A Code Type: {Code Name} dialog opens, listing the existing codes in that code type.
-
Click Add New.
A Code Details: {Code Name} dialog opens.
-
On the Code Details tab, specify at least the mandatory fields (marked by a * red asterisk).
For simple code types, these include the Code and Description fields. The code must be unique within this code type. More complex code types have additional mandatory fields.
-
Optionally, if there is a Plot Boundary: Map button, you can plot the location or area to which this code relates.
(This opens the Map Search screen in a separate tab of your browser.)

Tip
You cannot delete a code that is currently being used on any worksheet. However, you can make the code inactive by setting its End Date field.
Alternatively, for some Public Protection code types, if an obsolete code is being replaced by a new code, you can merge the old code to the new code, and the old code is automatically deleted.
