Management Area Codes code type

Management Area Codes (MACs) are used to group Asset, Building Control, Building Control Enforcement, Planning, Planning Appeal, and Enquiry and Complaint applications into administrative areas.

A system administrator can assign multiple management areas to an authority user when that user's account is created and also identify which of these is the user's default area.

  • When an authority user creates an application, its management area is initially that user's default area, but the user can change that to any other area. It may also be updated by spatial querying.

  • When an applicant or their agent creates a public-facing Building Control or Planning application, its management area may be determined automatically by spatial querying. If not, a default value is assigned from ASSURE's Configuration Settings, using the ManagementAreaCode parameter in either the BuildingControlSubmission or PlanningSubmission parameter group, as appropriate.

An authority user who has been assigned one or more management areas can edit the applications in those areas, but can only view the applications in other areas (or where no area is specified). An authority user can link other applications to an editable application, but again only if those applications are in the user's assigned areas.

If an authority user is not assigned any area, or if their default area is deactivated, they cannot create applications but they can edit them.
