Define overlay services
If your authority has licensed Geographical Information Services (GIS) to display maps in ASSURE, you can define overlay services and then assign them to menu items.
There are two types of service:
-
Web Feature Service (WFS)
-
Web Map Service (WMS)
ASSURE includes some standard WFS services which can be partly edited to suit your requirements. You can also add your own user-defined WFS services. However, user-defined WMS services are not supported; instead, use user-defined WMS basemaps.
Adding a user-defined WFS service to ASSURE Land & Property
-
On the System Administration screen, click GIS Settings.
The GIS Administration screen appears.
-
Click Overlay Settings.
The Overlay Settings screen appears.
-
Click Add a New Overlay.
The Add a New Service page appears.
Web Feature Service configurable settings Field

Must be WFS.
WFS Layer Name
The name of the required layer.
For an internal layer this takes the form workspace_name:layer_name.
Layer Type
Either Generic or Point.
Has Radius Property?
Radius Property Name
Whether this service can include circular geometries, and if so the name of the property that provides the radii of those geometries.
Is it excluded from Spatial Search?
Whether this service is excluded from spatial searches.
This affects the
Spatial Search on Layers map tool and the Spatial Query function in Land & Property applications.
Visible at Zoom
The map scale at which the overlay becomes visible, or Always if always visible.
Is Active?
Whether this service is currently available.

Web Feature Service layer information Field
Description
Geometry Field Name⊘
The property that defines the feature's geometry.
Property Tooltip
A property of the feature that will provide the text of a tooltip that appears when the plotted geometry is hovered over.
⊘ Uneditable fields.
-
Optionally, identify which properties of a feature you want to show in a map's Layer Information panel, and where applicable in the Constraints Detail dialog when opened from the Constraints tab of an L&P application.
For each property, specify the following and click Add to update the list of Selected Service Properties.
Web Feature Service layer information: Properties Field
Description
Sort Order*
Where this property appears within the Layer Information panel.

The name of the property.
Is Hyperlink?
Whether this property will be linked to the application, worksheet, or record whose geometry is described by the feature.
Hyperlink Source Type
If the property will be hyperlinked, the source of the URL.
This can be either Manual (the URL must be explicitly entered) or Field (the URL is available as another property of the feature).
-
If Manual, enter the URL in the Source URL field.
-
If Field, select the property from the Hyperlink Source Property list.
Custom Property Caption
A more descriptive name to substitute for the property name in the Layer Information panel or Constraints Detail dialog.
Mapping Constraint Field
Only for a service that defines the geometries of constraint UDOs, whether this property corresponds to the constraint's Reference, Location, or Description.
UDO Item Field
Only for a service that defines the geometries of UDOs, whether this property corresponds to a specific field of a UDO item:
-
Description 1 to Description 10
-
Number Description 1 to Number Description 10
-
Date 1 Description to Date 4 Description
-
Checkbox Description 1 to Checkbox Description 10
* Mandatory fields.

Click Save.
Important
If the service is intended to be used to perform spatial queries on constraints, or spatial answering of CON29 questions, you must map properties to its Reference, its Description, and at least one UDO item field (whether text, number, date or checkbox).
If a hyperlink source property is used, it must be mapped to a constraint field (typically Reference) and also to a UDO item field. Otherwise, the following validation message appears:
-
In order to create a hyperlink for a selected property, the Mapping Constraint Field and the UDO Item field are mandatory
A manual hyperlink, or any other property, may be mapped to either a constraint field, or a UDO item field, but not both. Unmapped properties will not be included in the UDO.
